I’m their protector, their friend, their lifeline
When I started working at the Pink House in Cândido Sales, I thought I understood what it meant to be a social worker. But I soon realised that here, it is so much more. It means never finishing your shift and switching off. It means seeing beyond their anger or silence to the pain that sits behind their eyes. It means showing them, again and again, and even when they don’t seem to be listening, that their lives are precious.
